Pavers & Retaining Walls

The parts of a yard that stay put for twenty years.

Paver walkways, block retaining walls, borders and edging. Hardscaping is the structure a landscape hangs off — get the base right and it holds its line for decades. Get it wrong and it sinks in two winters.

What's included

Everything in this job, spelled out.

  • Area excavated to depth. Dug out properly rather than laid on whatever is already there.
  • Compacted gravel base. The part nobody sees and the only reason it stays level. Skipping it is why paths sink.
  • Blocks and pavers set by hand. Laid to a line and checked as we go, not eyeballed.
  • Walls stepped and backfilled. Built into the grade with drainage behind so water doesn't push the wall out.
  • Edges restrained. So the outside course can't creep away from the rest over time.
  • Finished and cleaned up. Beds barked, surfaces blown down, offcuts and spoil hauled away.

How it works

Three steps, no runaround.

1

Walk it with us

We look at the grade, the drainage and what the area has to hold back or carry. Height and length drive everything about the price.

2

Base goes in

Excavate, lay and compact the base. Most of the labour on a wall or path is here, before a single block is visible.

3

Build and finish

Blocks or pavers set to line and level, backfilled, edged, and the area cleaned up behind us.

“Prompt. Affordable. Great local company to support. Did a great job outlining the scope and expected cost.”

Questions

What people ask before they book.

What does a retaining wall cost?
It comes down to length, height, and how much excavation the site needs — a low border and a wall holding back a real slope are different jobs. We look at it and give you a firm number before anything starts. Estimates are free.
Why does the base matter so much?
It's the whole job. A path or wall set on a compacted gravel base stays level for decades. One laid straight onto soil sinks, tilts and opens up gaps, usually within a couple of wet Oregon winters. It's the step that's invisible when we finish and obvious two years later.
Do I need a permit?
For low garden walls and borders, generally not. Taller retaining walls often do need a permit and sometimes an engineer's drawing, and the threshold depends on your city or county. We'll tell you where your job falls before we start rather than after.
Can you match what's already there?
Usually. Bring us a photo of the existing pavers or block and we'll tell you honestly whether we can match it or whether it'll read as a repair.
